Celebrate ten years of The Royal Tenenbaums with me tomorrow, December 10! I’ll watch the movie as my study break. Costumes are optional.

This movie really resonated with high-school-me. I became a big Wes Anderson fan after I saw Tenenbaums. I made sure I saw his old movies and stayed on for his future flicks. Halloween costumes defaulted to Richie Tenenbaum or Steve Zissou (when I wasn’t painting myself blue to dress up as Tobias Fünke, Blue Man Group edition).
One of my friends and I had fun playing the “indie film elitist” characters in our group of friends. Our fake daily schedule included folding vintage tees at Urban Outfitters, hopping over to the Angelika to catch the latest French independent film (without captions), hanging out in high-priced empty lofts, and, of course, rubbing elbows with Wes Anderson. If we knew what Ed Hardy was when we were in HS, I’m sure we would have had a field day with it. There WAS Von Dutch, though.
Anderson could spend 2 hours shooting whatever, slap on some Futura, include some [obscure/ digital music, or foreign language covers of old songs], and I would probably love it. I know I would think each still shot is a work of art.
